Creating shared drives on a small Network - easy?

What i'm looking to do is creat a shared drive on a small network i have running here at work. The system admin is no help - so i thought i'd turn to the next best resource.

Where can i go. or what can i do to setup a small network with a shared drive? I went through and changed the workgroups so they were all the same, but now i need to figure out how to get people to log-in to the network upon boot.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated - and please forgive me for my network incompetance!

Thank you!

More details please.

How many computers are you trying to share drives between?

How are these computers hooked up? All of them into one hub, or some hooked into one hub and some into others?

Can you see the system names under My Network Places under Computers Near Me or Network Neighborhood?

If the computers are not listed, if you goto Start/Find Computer Name or Start / Search Computer Name and type in one of the other computer names does it show up?

Can you even see your own system name under the same place?

How are the IP addresses setup? Are they specified on each system or are they set dynamically? If they are set dynamically goto Start/Run WinIPCFG (If within Win95/98/ME) then make sure the Adapter listed is the network adapter not PPP adapter or Start/Run CMD then IPCONFIG /ALL (WinNT/2k/XP).

How is the Subnet(s) setup? Are they all 255.255.255.0 or something else?
