Creating portable apps - Are these applications worth using?

I tried Thinapp back in like 2008, but I don't think I did everything right. There's a guide somewhere on the net that tells you how to use it. I think the other programs might be a lot easier. All they do is make the registry (which is just a database), and dlls local and not strung out all over your computer.
