where do i start? what languages are used for mac?

There are a number of choices, but you should probably start with Cocoa programming using Objective-C

REALBasic is full featured, compatible with VB and can create Mac apps for everything from classic 68k's through to the latest OS level. That and you can compile the same app for windows and linux from the same IDE.
