creating an internet wan?

For gaming purposes, I'd like to be able to fool the computer into believing that my buddy is actually on my local lan even though he's just connected to the net.

You can do this at the Microsoft gaming zone online, but I was wondering if there was another way using free or almost free software that works well.

Just buy the game. I take it your trying to do this to get around any kind of KEY verification?

uh..no

i'm trying to do this so I can play thps2 with my buddy.

it only supports local lan games. can't type in an ip address.

gotcha.

VPN is the answer or some other kind of NAT. Maybe with one of the soho routers you can accomplish the network address translation he needs?
