creating a restore cd from the i386 directory

Can it be done? I've got a newer Dell XPS system here that is too filled with spyware / trojans / etc. that I cannot get rid of the stop error on startup.

The problems with the machine are a plenty, though, as Dell does not provide sata drivers to reinstall from an unbranded XP cd, and without ps2 ports, any attempt to make another boot cd to try and install, and I cannot get the keyboard to work.

Looks like there's a lot of drivers packed into the i386 directory on the hard drive - just like to try and find some way before having to order & wait for Dell restore disks.

Yes, it can be done. I did it the hard way a few years back, but I've heard nLite is supposed to make it easy. I also don't know specifically whether all the relevant drivers are included in the i386 folder, though I'd guess they would be.

You can combine two discs and create an XP install. First one to contain the I386 folder and all contents (might be wise to copy any OEM files from the OS drive root as well), the other would be the UBCD4Win boot disc.
