creating a partition in winxp

i followed the instructions in help bout creating a partition in xp... my system drive (c) is 40 gig.. i want to make it 10gig system 30 gig programs.. followed help instructions to right clcik drive then click make partition..how come the make partiton option is not highlighted? is there something i can do to create a partition??? experts need your help
 
That only works if you have free space left on the physical disk to make the partition. If you have one partition and you need to split it into pieces, you'll need a program like Partition Magic.
