Created VCD but get no sound when played on regular DVD Player

I created a VCD of a home movie. It was edited using ULead VideoStudio
5.0 DVD Edition. It plays fine on the DVD player in my computer, but
when I play it on my Stand-Alone Philips 825AT DVD player there is no
sound. The picture is fine.

can someone tell me why this would happen and what I need to do to get
sound when played on my regualar DVD player.
