Create RAID without losing data?

I'm not sure if this is the correct section, but I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to create a new RAID 1 using a disk that already has data on it.

I have a 2 TB hitachi with about 1.5 TB of data on it (non-OS), and don't have anywhere to store it in the meantime.
It's simple/basic NTFS using GPT and has a single partition.

I just bought a second identical drive, so would it be possible to somehow change the filled drive to RAID 1 and add the second disk into the array as if it was a replacement?

With the intel storage matrix driver I know its possible - assuming you have an intel motherboard. AMD it may also be possible.

You could also try windows raid if you're feeling crazy and have windows professional or better.

I have Win 7 Professional, and the same mobo as you, Intel/MSI P55-GD65.

Do you know what I would have to do for this, or anywhere I could go for further reading?

You should be able to create a RAID1 from a single drive without losing data.

You will definately need to install the Intel RST and go from there.

You may have to go into the BIOS and set the storage to RAID before/after the RST install.

yeah be careful the consumer drives usually don't have WWN so they are tattoed by the raid controller. alot of low end cards use the tattoo so if you ghost it or if it was part of another raidset it might get pissed. i've got an ssd i ghosted from raid-1 and intel matrix raid won't let me reset it to non-raid.
