Create playlist from files on external drive

I am a total idiot and completely new to this stuff and need help.
I have music stored on a external usb hard disk drive drive that I would like to make into cd's
Problem is my laptop does not have enough space on the drive to do this.
This is what I would like to do.
Connect the external drive to the laptop.
Open itunes (latest version)
Create a playlist from the songs I have stored on the external drive. I have 450 songs I want to burn to cd's.
Burn the cd's
Print out a list of songs on each cd for the jewel case.

I do not want any files to move from the external drive to the laptop.
Can I do this??

I don't know if you've figured it out on your own, but that should work fine. I don't use iTunes, but all my other players will do that.

I gave up on the problem for a while. Wife bought a new desk and chair for the computer and of course I had to put it all together. LOLOL Went to the local library Friday and found a "Dummies" book on ipod and itunes. (Lastst edition) Will look through the book for help.

If anyone else cares to coment I sure could use some help!!
Thanks

Yes you can do this, in iTunes there's an option under edit/preferences/advance make sure the copy files to iTunes Media folder option is unchecked.
