I have a negative balance (was about 2700) due to returning something and have been charging new things on it. I had charged so many things, this morning was a 142.02 at performance pcs then I tried to get something from zipzoomfly for 498.13 and *BAM* declined. I was a little mad so I called B of A and was talking to this CSR and she asked me a trick question and was about to cancel my card unless I went into a local branch with:

My card
Photo ID
Electric bill

I was livid and went off on the person.

I got everything situated now because it took me a second to get the trick question. Here it is:

On april 11, 2006 you made a purchase for $1.00 what was it?

Nothing is there for that date for $1.00 then I am looking and see a Gasoline purchase ($36.00) and car wash (7.00) at the same place, it then clicked.

For anyone who doesnt know this, this will help you out, whenever you make a gasoline purcahse on a credit card (at any gas station from my understanding) they put a $1.00 charge (hold basically) on your credit card until the charge goes through for the full amount. So the $1.00 charge the lady asked me about was actually the beginning of the $36.00 gas charge on the credit card.

She tried her hardest to trick me, which really pissed me off even more.

A very long time ago when I first made my first big purchase with my credit card for its full amount of nearly $500 (was buying DVDs) I got a call within five minutes from VISA security. They had me do a full security check and they asked me some questions and just generally wanted to make sure it was a legit purchase made on my card.

It was cool but never happend again. I guess I make so many huge purchases around that or half that amount that it doesn't raise any red flags.

No.

There are red flags and under certain conditions, if you meet those conditions, the red flag is raised. In my case I was hitting almost the max on my card from 0. I think max was $600.

I fully understand what a "flag" is; however, I just found it funny that you said that you considered a huge purchase to be around $500.

On my salary $500 is massive. That's 3/4 of a paycheque in Canadian Dollars.

Of course if I get hired where I work in about 6 weeks it will only be about 1/3 of my paycheque.

She had asked about several other transactions to the penny then she asks about a $1.00 transaction that does not show up to the consumer on their statement, only the bank itself. The majority of consumers are unaware of the $1.00 hold on their credit card, which looks like a charge to the bank, which is refunded I believe and then the full amount goes through, which was $36.00 in this case.

Since I couldnt answer the question at first she was about to cancel the card.

How dare them considering they flagged a $142.02 charge and I see about 10 ther charges in the past two months that are far more than that which werent flagged.

Your brain must be damaged.
When your credit limit is near $500 and you make a purchase of nearly $500, then this is considered a huge purchase and could definitely raise red flags to the credit card company.
