crc errors?!?!?

Senior member
every time i download files, and i try to run/uncompress them after the download is complete, it always says that the file is corrupted or has CRC errors. whyyyyy??!! it seems to happen mostly on larger files (ie. Deus Ex patch, 36MB; Mechwarrior 4 Demo 68MB)...

Here's my system specs:
PIII 800EB
Intel D815EEA Motherboard
256MB PC-133 SDRAM
Maxtor 30.7GB ATA-100 7200rpm
Maxtor 8.4GB ATA-66 5400rpm
Sony 32X CD-ROM
Plextor 12/10/32A CDRW
3D Prophet II MX
Intel Pro 10/100 NIC (integrated on motherboard)
Sound Blaster Live
Windows ME

I'm on a LAN... there is one computer connected directly to cable modem, and my system is connected to that computer via cross-wire RJ45 cables... and we share the internet connection... is that where my problem is?? the thing is, everything was ok before... i could download no problem... the problem just started today... so i reformatted and i still get the same problem... can anyone tell me what's causing the crc errors and offer any advice?

thanks.

What you should be concerned with is line quality, from the cable modem out, I am not sure how to check the stats on cable, maybe someone on here will speak up, but you need to find out how many bytes you transmit and recieve, and how many CRC errors you have for that connection, a few wont hurt, but use this general formula

crc / BytesRX + BytesTX = n

if n is greater than 1.25, you have a line problem, call your ISP.
