CRC error

I have a problem with a folder, whenever that I try to access it, I get a CRC error. I searched in the web for something to recover the info inside the folder and I wasn't able to find something.

I can understand that a couple of files got damaged and that can generate an error, but an entire folder with thousands of files... I can not get inside the folder to look at the files, so I guess that only the entry for the folder is damage, since it is a key that indicates part of a name and doesn't conain info of the actual files inside.

It sounds to me like the error is in the directory tree itself, not the individual files in the folder. That's why you can't access the folder at all. If the files are really important, you may be able to pay someone to recover them for you, but it probably would be expensive. Other than that I don't know how you would recover it. I don't know why it wouldn't show an error when you scan though.

BTW it may help someone else if we knew what files system you were using.

I'm using NTFS, but is an old HDD, maybe I should replace it.

There is nothing important there, but I would like to recover them. There is my college homework, papers, etc;

CRC error is usually indicative of a hardware problem, likely either the drive has started to develop bad sectors or the cable is having problems. Since it's just one directory I'd venture to say the former first.
