About a week ago I shutdown my computer from within Windows XP(I had not restarted or shutdown in 38 days). I meant to hit restart instead of shutdown. Anyways, I pushed the power button and nothing happened. I started pulling the computer out and messing it with. After a few minutes, it started fine.
At the time I was in a rush and didn't investigate any further. Today I decided to see if the problem was still there. Sure enough, if I shutdown within Windows XP, I can't immediately restart the machine. I mean nothing happens. No fans spin, nothing. I figured this had to be a power supply issue. I used another power supply and I had the same issue.
I decided to test a few things, I manually shutdown the computer by holding the power button for 3 seconds while in windows. I could immediately start the computer back. The only time there is a problem is when I actually shutdown from within Windows XP. I can turn it off and on all I want using the power button to shutdown.
I updated the BIOS in the crazy chance that was the problem.
My system is:
Gigabyte 7VRXP
2400+ AMD
512MB PC2700
330watt Enermax PSU
Geforce 2 ultra video
I have never seen a problem like this. The confusing part is the fact that shutting down from within windows causes the problem.
Any ideas?
