crazy. some student here lit a dorm's light on fire and got charged with arson

People at Ole Miss made a salad in the men's shower. They got like 50# of lettuce, 20# of tomatoes, and like 5 gallons of dressing and threw it in the showers.

People under 30 are idiots. 😉

That's benign compared to an arson
Well, we had people light trash cans on fire in high school and they put bars on the windows of the female dorms, because guys would leap from their windows and go into the girls' windows. 😀

Seriously though, that is bad, but it sounds like kids being stupid, not trying to destroy the dorm.

Not that I don't think they should have been arrested.

Would you have said that if it had been one of the tires of your car instead? He destroyed something which was not his property.

Well, that's why I say he still should have been arrested, but I think this was less severe than say burning down a store with gasoline. It was a very stupid stunt that he should pay for.

Personally I think he should be expelled.

I disagree. Arson in a dorm have a much serious consequence than setting a vacant store on fire.

We have hundreds of people living in that building.

I agree with Neo.

In fact anyone doing something stupid like smoking in carpeted rms of buildings should be punished as well, since cig butts which aren't properly put out could cause the carpets to burn, and there are hundreds of students in the dorm.
A fire only took 5 minutes to put the whole of a football stadium alight (albeit it was made of wood)

Yeah, you're right. Sorry, I'm not exactly thinking clearly right now. 🙂

"I kind of smelled smoke on the way down, but I thought it was a drill again because we do them all the time," freshman Matt Kiesse said.

lol. New and IMPROVED fire drills! Complete with actual fire!

Said one spokesman "If this don't get the little bastards to pay attention to the fire drills, nuthin will."

Being a former RA in a Dorm, I can tell you it's rather common for arson to happen. In fact, at WVU it's downright tradition to light things on fire in protest or celebration. Don't know how many times I had to wake up to alarms and run up and down 9 flights of stairs to pull people out of their rooms because some moron was lighting incense, setting trashcan fires, smoking weed under the sensors(you can smell the lysol 50ft away on those rooms), etc.

Of course, with major mid-night fire alarms, you often get to see hot co-eds in little to nothing at all. Sometimes full blown sex 🙂

I was going to make fun of WVU, but looks like someone beat me to it.

Dorm fires are a serious business. Just a couple of years ago a student died and another had burns all over his body from a dorm fire. The cause? Burning incense or some other stupid stunt. Anybody who decides to light fires in a dorm is an idiot and deserves to be charged with arson. link to article

There was a firebug in the dorms at my school the last time a stayed there; he actually managed to light a couple small fires over the course of the semester, and never was caught. Burnt a couch down the first time; the rest were just old t-shirts and stuff, IIRC.
