Ok, yesterday there was a basketball game and halfway through the game, a gang of teens came into the stands where all the spectators were and some of them had machetes! They held some ppl hostages too! One of the teachers called 911 and the gang ran for it! (wtf?) The police investigation didnt find much. A couple students were wounded and were hospitalized.

Not surprised. Unexpected stuff is always happening at my school. Bomb threats, teachers under investigation, people getting arrested for pocession of illegeal substances or weapons, etc.

I don't want to sound over my head or anything, but we're going to schools in different times now. Not exactly the most comforting atmosphere, and not the kind of atmosphere of 25 or 30 years ago. Even my teachers agree with that.

Hmm that's when I was going to school. Let's see, rampant drug use, teachers getting the sh!t beat out of them by students, getting in fights with kids from other schools at the Drive In Movies, students committing suicide because they are all fscked up mentally, Kids killing themselves in Car Wrecks, Kids bringing guns to school, all the Cheer Leaders were Sluts, the Varsity Quaterback was our main supplier for Acid. Yep the more things change the more they stay the same.

The main difference was we had long hair and we listened to Rock n Roll instead of Rap.

Yeah, where did all this anger come from in the past 20-30 years? Why does killing seem to make people feel good about themselves and they think it solves problems, OY! My school's not that bad, we have maybe one major "case" each year where someone has a gun in their locker, lots of kids have knifes, pocketknifes...but oh well! Drugs is also a large problem...

Sounds like my old high school. I have an acquaintance who's under house arrest for taking a machete to some guy's arm. :frown:

Not to make this a racial discussion, but machetes...were they Asian - specifically, Sri Lankan? I have 1,001 great Sri Lankan friends but some of them really give the rest a bad name.

In the past year, two teachers in [former] schools i've attended have been put in prison for sex with students

The first guy worked at an elementery school, he'd molest little boys (mostly the ones on his little league team he coached) THE GUY IS A FSCKIN SICKO, I had this guy for a teacher.

And in my old jr. high some lady got busted for having sex with a student, it went on for like 2 years before they got caught.

If you read Red Dawn's post you'll see that this all happened 25 to 30 years ago. Although his may be a rare case. When you have alot of schools then those rare cases become more common, and you hear alot more about them because of the media sensationalizing them and also through the internet. Back then news did not spread as quickly or to as many people as it reaches now. An incident like this would have been known throughout the town that it happened in, maybe even a few towns over, but it would not be heard of across the country as the internet and other sources now allow.

I don't think the situation has changed, but just our knowledge and access to more information makes it appear that times have changed.

There is definitely more gunplay at school now. Back then a knife was about as bad as it would get in a fight. These days somebody get's pissed and out comes a piece...Badda Bing Badda Bang..Dead Kid.

Yeah gangs are a big problem here in Toronto. I lost a friend due to it...you Torontians might remember the tradegy that occured last Sept, when 4 guys in a white Honda Civic were shot at. 2 died, the other two survived. They were shot for no reason, the shooters thought it was someone else. The scary part, is that I had rides in that Civic in the past.

You don't know what its like sitting in the house of the victim's parents the day after. Not fun. :(
