Crazy restaurant story

So I bought a gift certificate for this chinese restaurant off of restaurants.com

so we have already purchased the gift for this particular place and they refuse to accept it claiming they havent used restaurant.com for months...even though we have the printout wiith the timestamp of 2 hours before we went.

so we ask to talk to a manager, the waitress refuses to get a manager. We then ask for the managers name, again she refuses. We then ask for her name, no way in hell is she giving her name.

so now we are kind of stuck, this restaurant is a good 45 min. drive from where we live and we cant get any information about them.

so finally after getting really annoyed I tell them that I will call the cops if I dont get a name.

she still refused to get any manager or give her name. So I called the cops (luckily this is not a big town, its outside of Los Angeles county)...and no i didnt call 911, i called the local cops and asked what i should do and they said they would send someone out

about 20 min. later the cops showed up and they get the waitress to call the manager who then came down (he wasnt there at the time) and gave us his information and explained that they had tried calling restaurants.com 6 months ago to get rid of the certificate, but they hadnt

he then gave us his name and the owners and their number...in case there are any problems.

it was really odd how much we had to do to get the information...and we wasted like an hour or 2 going through this process

notes:
-had gift certificate
-refused service using g.c.
-refused any information about the restaurant
-called cops
-cops got info

Umm......I don't know if I'd use that cert anymore, even if it is now "valid." Or eat there ever again, for that matter.

Pissed off cooks/waiters will certainly be adding "special ingredients" to your food, after the calling of the po-po.

I guess it'd be OK if you got a buffet though 😛

Is there a refund policy at restaurants.com?

I'm sure you have a reason, but, why drive 45minutes to a chinese place, there are usually tons of 'em within a few miles. 😛

I don't recall if you were the ATOT member who'd ask (to no end) for your money back if you weren't completely satisfied... whether it be food or a product... and I certainly can't find that thread again... it was jaw-dropping the lengths that person would go to...

But in the end, all I'll say is - I think some people have too much time on their hands...

no i have never asked about being satisfied, i am normally very easy going and would have left with no problem with just the name of a manager or being able to talk to one and i made this perfectly clear...i was pretty sure restaurants.com would refund the money, but it had to do with the prinicple of the thing at this point

i have to send info to restaurants.com now and they will review it

if the did let us eat it would have been fine, because its one of those places where you cook your own food, but yeah i wasnt too excited about eating there then

Did you get a discount for buying a gift certificate? I'm just trying to figure out why you didn't just pay at the restaurant like a normal person.

restaurant.com offers $25 certificates for $10, and there is a 50% off code now, so $25 at the restaurant for $5

or some 50% off the bill for $3

ivebeen eating really cheap this week 🙂...last night got a $30 dinner for $15

also got $25 of ribs for $5 earlier last week

That's weak dude.

The police have better things to do than to make sure your fvcking coupons are working.

Next time a restaurant doesn't want to honor a coupon, pay the bill like a normal person instead of wasting my tax dollars on your "principles".

whatever...i let the cops decide what i should do and they thought it was worth their time...I am not going to let a business rip me off...i was not looking for trouble, all i wanted was to talk to someone besides the waitress who didnt know why she couldnt accept it...she never explained it to me, just said "no we stopped taking those months ago" even though i had just bought it

It's not like he called 911, sh!tbrick. He called local police on a non-emergency line, and they sent someone out. If there was an emergency at the same time, the cops that went to the restaurant would have left to take care of it.

The city MrDingleDangle was in is mostly industrial--very little activity on the weekends, so I'm sure the cops had time to go on this call.

Oh, and get over your friggin' tax dollars. We all pay taxes. It doesn't make you special.

you didn't quite answer this lingering question: did you ultimately get your coupon honored at the restaurant, or no?
