I recently bought an Athlon64 rig from ZipZoomFly.com.

Athlon64 3500
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Corsair TwinX Memory 1Gig
Seagate SATA drive
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Enermax 470 Noisetaker PSU

1) First Install - things acting wierd. PCI slots not working, on-board Ethernet not working, eventually = total failure! When I switched to old 350W Antec PSU - everything worked fine! So I decided to RMA the Enermax PSU for a new one.

2) Second install - Recieved new Enermax PSU. When installed, the sytem wont even boot, after a couple tries - now only the PSU fans turn on - but no other life! Meanwhile the Antec PSU powers the system Great!

3) Installing the Enermax PSU in other (old) systems. It works fine?!?!?!?! The only thing I can think of is that the old systems dont require as much power and maybe some of the Enermax Over-voltage, over-current logic is misbehaving when plugged into my power-hungry athlon64 rig???

Could the Motherboard be bad - it seems highly unlikely since it works great with the Antec 350W PSU!

How is the world could I get TWO faulty Enermax PSUs????

Try booting with everything not installed in the case. You could have a shorting problem. Also, certain power supplies do not work with certain motherboards.

As we speak - I have everything disconnected. All that is left in my case is the Mobo, CPU, CPU Fan, and one stick of memory.

THe Enermax PSU still does not work! I am going to remove the Mobo from the case and try that.

If there was a short - then howdoes the Antec PSU work fine with my setup???

I took everything out of the case - plugged in Motherboard - still nothing.

I even disconnected all the fans on the chips - still nothing.

When I first plugged it in (round #1) it did work - but it was short changing to Mobo power - therefore the PCI slots were not working. After a day of use - it failed.

The Antec PSU works great!

I had power problems initially - that caused my monitor to go bad. I think that may have been the death of the first PSU too! Could that have damaged the motherboard. I hope not - and it doesnt not seem that way - since it works great with Antec PSU.

Should I just return the Enermax Noisetaker and try another brand - chalk it up to PSU incompatibility.

Yes that most definately could have damaged your motherboard especially since it did work at first. I don't know if I would trust that motherboard.
