It is using a PCIE extender.

I'm the builder.. I hate to admit it because then I'm just spamming advertising.

Looks like a riser with ribbon cable.

Nice setup. I'd prefer to do a clear case vs mounting on the wall, though.

My brother posted my old one on this site awhile back, I think. I had a similar one that wasn't nearly as nice looking since I hacked it together in a weekend that got spread around the internet quite a bit.

After it blew up and went all over the place I decided to build them to see if it was a commercially viable idea.


P.S. - I know the memory isn't set up in triple channel mode. I didn't wanna bother with setting that up just for testing.

Sorry, I'd rather not do with the noise of that stuff out in the open pointed towards me.

Its cool in a novelty sort of way, but other than that not really. You just bolted parts to a base and stuck it on a wall and then put some UV lights on it.

Why not take it a step further and wall mount the LCD and speakers? Wouldn't be much work at all...

While I don't think it's ugly. it wasn't meant to be an engineering piece. So you have to forgive the fact that it probably isn't level.

I doubt it's noisy, except for maybe the graphics card.

Now finally seeing it, I'm glad I never attempted this.

1. I migrated to laptops.
2. LAN parties (back then for me) would require me to carry my guts (hardware) out and spill them over the table tops, unprotected.

It's pretty cool looking, like a work of art, but unfortunately it is probably way more noisy than if all those fans were enclosed in a case stuffed under a desk somewhere.

Maybe enclose it in a clear plexiglass frame with some vents on the sides to help silence the fans?

you can still judge the results. its tacky, like a plastic pink flamingo on your front lawn. adds nothing. some people are good at case mods, others..not so much. not everyone is a good artist or designer, so sometimes it is better to leave it to the experts.

If I'm an imposter I'm not a very good one. I don't even sound like him.

I realize this isn't a computer for everyone, it isn't meant to be. I wasn't trying to build a 5,000 dollar gaming rig to compete with Alienware, just something cool and different. I laugh at how many people hate on the monitor and speakers. They are what I had before this, I just set it up as an example. I'm just trying to find out if it is a commercially viable idea, and partially because I just really like attempting to combine my nerd side with my artsy side.

As far as loudness goes - since it gets so much passive air flow from being open, it doesn't need the fans on a high speed to stay cool. The fan controller keeps things pretty quiet unless playing Black Ops on ultra high. And if you are doing that I would imagine explosions would be drowning out the sound.

if you going to show off, it can't be all show no go.
sound quality of those micro driver type cheapo units is probably pretty lousy.
more effort choosing components vs tacking leds to the wall would be better no?
i mean really if he had hacked all that into a used apple mac pro case or something i'd me more impressed.

if you are going to make the effort, yo might as well do it right.

I like it. Would be a nice way to heat the room during the winter, and the parts could easily be cooled when they got hot.
