Crazy night at the ER...

Work was busy tonight...

Up until 11:00 we had one death, one 20-something girl who lost her eye to a bottlerocket, one baby choking, one boy severely burned on shoulder and ear by fireworks, one guy who had something "flew up in his ear and biting his brain", one lady who almost overdosed her baby on Tylenol and Motrin, and countless drunks.

Keep in mind, this is the ER for a town with population of 9000. Thankfully I am off the next three days..

Other than that, Happy Independence Day!
 
see, kids didn't get their hands burned off by putting the firecracker on the ground, holding the punk at the tip, and lighting the firecracker from arm's length. no, kids get their hands blown off by trying to throw firecrackers when already lit.

True, rarely see patients who were injured when doing it the right way.
 
haha, I miss my days of riding the medic unit. Some people are just too stupid to continue living without being rescued.
 
How can a bottle rocket poke out an eye? I've been hit by many bottlerockets, and not are thrusty enough to break an eye ....

Yup, I had a bottlerocket hit me once and exploded upon impact. It left a golf ball sized bruise on my leg. We were drunk and shooting off bottlerockets last night, started off with shooting them out of bottles and then ended up with us shooting them out of your hand.
 
Thank goodness you work in a small town. I've got a buddy that works the ER at Parkland memorial in Dallas (county hospital), the stories he tells about off nights will raise the hair on your arms. I can only imagine last night must have been hellish there.
