I have a windows program (I think its a system service) windows 2000 server. SVChost. I think its corrupted, it slowly expands and eats all my ram and virtual memory (2.0 gig total) then slowly implodes.

What does this service do? and how do I correct it?

I tried a system restore (windows 2000 backup system state data). But to no success/

Ideas?

That's the executable file that handles the system Services, like DNS Client, Event Log, Logical Disk Manager, Print Spooler, Plug and Play. All the important background things that your system wouldn't run without, but that you don't need to see as separate programs.

Why it would be eating up memory I don't know. Where are you seeing that it's using all the memory?

IN task manager, I guess one of the services its running is out of control. I'm gonna go disable a couple and see how it turns out.
