Crazy Japanese Game

I saw this on Mythbusters once, they couldn't figure out how to do get liftoff. Another example of how the Japenese are smarter.
 
I question if this was rigged or not, because the thrust should have pushed him in different directions, but he pretty much went in a straight line. For an example of what I mean, blow up a balloon and let it go- does it go in a straight line?

It's almost like he was catapulted.

watch it again, he does get thrown around a good bit it looks like.
also a balloon doesn't have a 100+lb human with tons of bottles attached to it.

Yeah but while he goes in all different directions he also does it in a straight line. Also notice the Wil E. Coyote like pause in the air.
