On my way to work to day (yes I work OT on weekends), some idiot going 80+ mph passed me up on a scooter. Get this, all he had on was a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and bicycle helmet (yep not even a proper helmet). Seems incredible dangerous to me. After he passed me up, I kept thinking how I wish he crashes and loses all of his limbs for being so dumb.

You don't even wish harm on others when you drive. When some fuctard cuts me off and almost causes me to crash, I wish a painful death on them.

You were probably driving too slow and pissed the guy behind you off which is why he passed you and then cut you off.

I've seen someone on a downtown street here on a scooter with a bicycle helmet. Well, next time you see the dude's skin on the pavement, say hi and thanks for adding to the statisics.

Or just help him pick up his scooter and ask him if he's okay. Why does everyone have to be an ass?

I am sure if you crash on a scooter going 80+ mph with no protective clothing you are good as dead.

If you have a scooter that can do 80 then maybe you have a field of cotton candy and pillows you ride on. :)

There are scooters that can go over 100 mph. They even have 700cc scooters and 750cc ones are in the works too.

Depends where you're located, in the UK the term scooter refers to anything 50cc or smaller. I think in Connecticut anything over 150 needs to be registered as a motorcycle.

why would scooters have engines larger in displacement than sports bikes? 600cc is already very serious for a bike...

I am using the common definition of a 2 wheel with a platform for the operator's feet or has integrated footrests, and has a step-through architecture. Which is how most manufactures such as Honda define it. Also it is how the USDOT defines it.

Who knows why, but there are plenty of them that do.

I wouldn't underestimate the scooter crowd. There are some that really can go that fast. Hell, I wouldn't pass up the chance to ride a Honda Silverwing or a Piaggo MP3. Your base model scooter (<100cc) is pretty anemic though and has no business on the interstate. Don't judge a book by its cover though.

The problem with that is that the USDOT doesn't issue driver licenses. Scooters aren't allowed on limited access highways in my state, but motorcycles are. So a scooter with a Chevy Corvette V-8 engine is considered a motorcycle and therefore is allowed on the highway. Potato patahto.

Here is a photo of a 700cc scooter that does over 100mph. 700cc scooter

See the foot rest, and small wheels, this what makes it a scooter. Some states might call it a motorcycle though.

Way to dangerous I can't see how someone would want to go that fast because if you get in a accident that will not feel very well or you will be gone.

Yes you do, at least here (California) you do.
