Crazy event at work today

Today at work we had a party/bbq outside to celebrate the company's 20th anniversary. The weather was alright, kind of windy but the gusts were strong and the wind was slightly shifting. Part of the celebration was 4 skydivers that were supposed to land in the parking lot (with trees and lightpoles as well as a few cars). Don't ask me what the cars were doing there.

Anyways, in the diagram, the stick figure is myself and there are lots of other people in that area and basketball court. The first guy that was supposed to land in the middle of the parking lot didn't judge his landing right. We thought he was going to land in the sand volleyball court but then he realized he overshot it. He then almost clipped the building. Then he picked up a bunch of speed, and flew directly over my head. At this point he was probably going about 50-60 mph. His 'chute brushed a tree and he started to twist/yaw...and at that point he was out of control. I think he was trying to land behind the cars which would have been possible if it weren't for the tree. He completely slammed into the corner of a truck.

There were a couple of dents in the quarter panel and the tail light was pretty much obliterated. The guy hurt his elbow and had a large gash on his head. He told the Sherrif deputy that was on site that he was fine and he didn't want an ambulance to come (though I think they drove him to the hospital for stitches anyway).

His helmet has a camera mounted and I think a couple people got video of it so we're waiting for someone to get it and post it on youtube.

FYI, the other 3 people heard the first guy crash and were supposed to land in the same direction but circled around to land in the opposite direction instead. Though they came in crazy fast (and another guy almost clipping another building), they all landed safely.

Cliffs:
Skydivers were supposed to land in parking lot.
First person misjudged wind/landing.
Crashed into truck (stupidly) parked in the parking lot.
He was ok but dazed and banged up.
Waiting for video on youtube.

At the moment I am an intern at a software company that makes HMI programs. Though that ends in a few weeks and there aren't any positions available for me so I suppose I am in the process of finding a new job. :p

You are supposed to save him by soffening the landing with your head. That's what interns are for.

HAHA I thought about maybe jumping up and grabbing him by his ankles but then I realized that would make him land on his face and I was far enough away from the truck that there was a chance that he would have made it.

Good move. I don't think there is any way a person on the ground could help a bad skydiving landing.

No video yet. We also found out that the family of one of the people I work with was involved in a multiple fatality car accident on the free way. He lost all of his children

Yes it is. :(

Ironically, the accident happened within minutes of the skydiving incident.
