I dunno if anyone here follows whats going on in the ERP software space...I probably wouldn't if I wasn't working in an ERP company. Right now Oracle (#2 competitor) is trying to do a hostile take over and buy out Peoplesoft (#3 competitor). Peoplesoft just announced to acquire J.D. Edwards (#4 competitor in ERP) on Monday. Stocks are rising and falling as a result and there's speculation that Microsoft or IBM may pick up the left overs of this battle. Interesting stuff. Economy picks up a little bit and suddenly companies are doing some aggressive moves.

I think it makes sense for Oracle. With their market share going down, eliminating or buying the competition is an easy (if not expensive) fix.

everyone is saying oracle isn't serious about the bid...I'm worried about my job even more now :(

You bet that caught my attentions. We compete (Or try to anyway) with both Peoplesoft and JD Edwards. Their merger had us jumping up and down as it ment JD Edwards would pretty much have to stop product development until the sale went through.

No sure how Oracle buying them both up will effect us? However we do use their database with our product.

Peoplesoft has rejected Oracle's initial offer. It will be a hostile take over if it happens now. This is some crazy consolidation. Its possible that the combined companies will be bigger than SAP for a short time.

If the deal is completed, Oracle said it would continue to support software that PeopleSoft's customers have already installed and incorporate the best features of PeopleSoft's products into Oracle's line.

I guess there would some layoffs at both companies as oracle has no plans to continue any PeopleSoft products. Above quote from excite's tech news...

Oracle said they want PeopleSoft, but they DON'T want JD Edwards necessarily!!! It'll be interesting to see if they pick up PeopleSoft and scuttle the JD Edwards deal.

In my line of work, we follow companies with financial supply chain technology (Bottomline, Xign, Billingzone, BCE Emergis, Avolent etc.) I think the ERP vendors will start to acquire some of these companies and traditional SCM companies too.

well the Peoplesoft CEO has basically said Oracle's deal is attrocious and he will do everything he can to keep it from going through. The board will probably weigh its options and decide what to do on Monday. Looks like its a weekend of resume submissions for me.
