In other NBA news...god I hate the Spurs. There's really not that many teams I dislike in all of sports, but the spurs... so much to hate.

But yeah, dunk of the year so far.

really? why?

I think the spurs are one of the few classy organizations in all of sports, and they are a great team to watch IMO.

Wootsa, there is no doubt those links you posted are of really tough dunks, and are impressive. But what everyone's trying to say is, those players spend hours upon hours just practicing those dunks, while NBA players practice every other aspect of the game besides dunks, yet are just as capable of doing those.

Perfect example is Vince Carter (back when he was a young gun). Carter is older now, but knows his role on the Magic (well actually now Phoenix, just got traded less than an hour ago)and is a classy and respectful NBA player. Take a look at this short video showing how rawly talented Carter is(/was). There is no doubt that if an NBA player really wanted to, they could out-dunk any person in any dunk contest.

Uh... How the hell is that impressive? By normal standards, sure.. but by jumping standards?

It was just a standard two handed dunk...

*puzzled*

*THIS* is a crazy dunk:

and...

it's much less impressive when you don't have to dribble the ball.

prove me wrong... you are one of the most ignorant, head up his ass, posters, who has no actual skill sets within the sports that you comment about.

dude! woosta says he's got striking like GSP. total skills!

Did you not notice the part where I said Carter is the best NBA dunker? He's personally my favorite dunker because he pulls out all of those insane dunks in NBA games.

However, Air Up There is just on a different level and Carter nor Michael Jordan or Julius Erving will reach Air Up There's level even if they had dedicated their entire life towards it.

um....Air up there is willing to risk injuring himself for a dunk contest - most NBA players are not -

Blake Griffin is the 'current incarnation' of Vince Carter? that's brutally silly

As for the JR Smith dunk? it's ok - the defender really had nothing to do with it though, he was late getting there and Smith was oblivious to him anyway

I greatly prefer dunks when the defender(s) are going for the block - much more impressive to me - this Smith dunk - and the Wade dunk over A.Varejo last year - meh

The sad part about all this is that Smith is so talented, but he's a pin-head

Let's see the NBA players do this in the dunk contest:

airupthere.gif

Being totally honest, from the point of him jumping to the point in which he dunked the ball, that's a 430 degree spin at most. He had his back to the basket when he jumped and then wasnt even at 1 1/3 rotation before he dunked it in completely. Look at it frame by frame. Not anywhere near a 720 when he dunked it. Almost anyone can do a 720 just by jumping. Absolutely could Morrow, Wade, Griffin among others could do this dunk a any given time.

Sounds like you don't watch basketball much if you think Griffin can't dunk like VC on (or over or through or both) defenders.

He's better than VC, jumps almost as well 4 inches taller and 30 lbs heavier. He is just unstoppable.

And last but not least, Blake blocking the sht out of VC.

Griffin is the next big player in the league. He has the entire skill set. He reminds me of Karl Malone mixed with Vince Carters (year 2000) explosiveness.

I think the spurs are one of the few classy organizations in all of sports, and they are a great team to watch IMO.

Because they get all the breaks from the refs, and are known for playing dirty. Not so sure they still play dirty all that much, but they still get breaks from refs. Basically the hatred goes back to 2006ish when they played the Suns in that epic series. I think it was Robert Horry who throws nash into the scorer's table. A brawl ensues. The suns get 2 players suspended, the spurs get 1. Spurs go on to win the series. Of course that was a while ago so my memory is fuzzy :)

Then fast forward to this past week, Manu travels the other night before making the game winner, ref swallows the whistle, which I didn't mind too much. Then the next game Manu slides in front of Carmello whos throwing up the game winner, and the refs call the charge.

So basically they've always been a bunch of dirty foreign pricks. Even their coach is a dick...although he is the second best coach in the league.

Blazer fan checking in here. The Spurs are not a dirty team. It's called fundamentals. It's what brings championships.
