So I've been having quite a bit of problems with my computer. The specs are as follows...

AMD 64 2800+
ECS NForce 3
2 x 512 PC3200
ATI Radeon 9600XT

So the problem comes in when I sometimes play games or install programs. When I'm doing either of these, my computer likes to restart, where it sometimes hangs at the boot screen. If it doesn't, it takes FOREVER to get passed the screen displaying the bios information. I've done everything, swapped with a different motherboard/cpu, powersupply, memory, and CMOS battery, all to no availability.

I also have problems with my internet. After an hour or so of surfing the web, I'll gradually lose speed and it'll eventually stop working. What the heck is wrong with my computer? Prior to swapping the internals, the computer ran EVERYTHING perfectly. Now it's pissing me off :(.

1) Could the CPU be overheating and throttling back?

2) Is Windows up-to-date? Done a full antivirus scan lately (try this in Safe Mode if necessary)?

Cpu temps are reported at 40 degrees celcius in the BIOS menu. Windows is up to date with SP2, and I'm under a pretty hefty firewall, preventing anything from coming in or out.

Ram has been swapped out with a different pair. The harddrive can't constitute to the computer hanging in BIOS.

Yes... it most definitely can.

Yes, I'm sorry it can. In fact, you could have a bad sector on that hard drive. Thus, when the computer starts to boot and reaches that bad sector on the disk, it hangs or reboots. I would consider swapping out the hard drive.

Actually the hard drive is most likely to cause a hang during POST if it's failing or has bad sectors. The CD drive could also have something to do with it but that's unlikely.

For what its worth---see if the PSU is dropping in voltage during times of load---you can monitor via bechmarking programs or just using a voltmeter.

That could fit the set of symptoms and is easy to test for.

Wow, never knew that the HD could constitute to the problem. I'll definately check it out. Thanks :).

What brand and model of hard drive is it? If it happens to be a Western Digital with a Parallel ATA interface, and it happens to be on a data cable by itself, then remove the jumper cap from the jumper pins, which sets it to Single Master mode. Not that this truly fits the whole scenario, but just in case.
