Crazy Computer Problem Need Help

I am trying to fix my computer. Its an old Athlon but it worked for its needs. IE internet, word processing and most importantly my Magic Jack phone service.

Now the problem...the computer wont post past the pci listing it just hangs and hangs. I have removed ram reseated everything pull everything but kp,ram,mb,cpu,hd...still nothing it just hangs at that screen The hard drive is good. I tested it in another machine. Any ideas what can cause it to hang. I have reset cmos jumper left it off for night...Any ideas or else now i need to find a new CHEAP computer....

Thanks in advance this is driving me nuts

If it hangs on the pci listing then I'm thinking it's your video card, unless you have another card that you didn't list. If it finishes the listing (there'd be a perceptible blank line after the listing on screen) and then hangs it could be your hard drive or a critical Windows file is fubar'd.

Do you have or can you borrow another compatible and known-working video card. If so, exchange it with yours then boot and note PC's behavior. If you can't swap cards, try swapping the vid card to a different slot, boot and note behavior. It's rare, but you could have one bad PCI slot. I'm not familiar with your mobo but it probably has 2 or more PCI slots.

Boot with a bootable disk from the drive mfr with diagnostics on it and test your hard drive.

i think i might have figured it out...i think my windows was messed up and cpu...not sure which one. i changed both...thanks alzan....
