Ummm... no it didn't. Cannabis is prohibited at the Federal level by its inclusion in the schedule of controlled substances as part of the Controlled Substances Act. Alcohol was prohibited by Constitutional Amendment. There were zero states that enacted pro-alcohol laws while the Eighteenth Amendment was the law of the land, because those laws would have been unConstitutional. There were certainly states that may not have enforced the Eighteenth Amendment or the Volstead Act, but that's a far cry from having a law on your book directly contradicting Federal Law or the US Constitution on the matter.

That said, while this might not follow the exact path the alcohol prohibition followed, I agree that we're witnessing the tide breaking as cannabis prohibition gets swept away in this country. It's only a matter of time before it's, at the very least, recognized as a state's rights issue and not a matter for the feds.

Yes you are right. I stand corrected.

This story represents the rare instance where P&N seems to have a consensus. Christie is an idiot for his statement and the war on drugs is a failure.

Just lost your vote? He has been saying this all along. He said this even before he officially declared.

And?

*gasp*

I bow to your mighty intellect because I hadn't heard it before this and you had.

C'mon, guys. You can't really expect Christie to overlook the horrors of a drug that gives you the munchies.

Currently, we don't have to "enforce" any kind of legal limit of THC. If you smell like weed, you will be searched and possibly detained, as it is illegal to possess any amount. When it becomes legalized, that won't be a valid tactic for enforcing doing things like driving while high.

That is really my only apprehension in legalization. I have no issues with people getting high at home similar to I have no issue with people getting drunk at home (or smoking crack and shooting heroin, for that matter). It is just that interaction outside the home easily becomes dangerous when someone is impaired.

Meh. CO law has set blood limits and operators can either submit or face license revocation for a year, same as alcohol. They may be able to force it in the event of vehicular homicide, iirc.

As Vic says, it's secondary to the issue of legalization and in no way a reason to deny it.

More fuel for the fire. Could this be the year the two party system crumbles? Will the GOP splinter? Don't touch that dial! Stayed tuned for the further hilarious hijinks of Republicans Meet World.

Fuck you fattie. You're just jealous we are the fittest in the nation. Get off your ass and onto some trails. If you took the time to enjoy life, maybe you wouldn't be such an angry fat fuck.

If you were present when he made that speech, and shouted it from the audience, you would be a national celebrity.

After Christie ran into the crowd and ate him upon hearing the word "Twinkie."

HEY! Its time for the attention getting.
Especially for those 17+ candidates "trying" to make the debate cut.
If they snooze they lose.

For Christie, he had two choices to get some much needed attention.
Either say something about pot, or announce he wants a sex change and for everyone to start calling him Christina Christie. CC for short.

And if none of those ideas work out, Christie can always hold up a 7-11 store.
"YES OFFICER, THIS REALLY FAT GUY CAME IN THAT LOOKED JUST LIKE CHRIS CHRISTIE. AND HE SAID HE HAD A GUN IN HIS POCKET. AND DEMANDED I HAND OVER ALL THE LITTLE DEBBIE'S DONUTS THAT I HAD IN STOCK."

With all due respect, do you know what Indicas and Sativas are?

An Indica will completely derail your motor skills. Nothing like being drunk, but it would still be enough to ruin your golf game.

Sativas, unless you're new to it, essentially don't interfere with motor skills. If you're somewhat experienced with cannabis, a moderate amount of Sativa won't really have an effect on your golf game.

I could be high as the ISS on Sativa and a cop won't be able to tell, nor would it have any effect on my ability to drive. A few puffs on a moderately strong Indica, and you want to sit down and avoid driving.

If you really believe Sativa and Indica doesn't impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle in any way, again, you have smoked yourself retarded.

And, this idea that pot snobs are going to be the majority of users is fucking laughable. I'm sure the majority of beer users only drink christmas tree flavored IPAs...

We should thank him for that public service announcement; because of his comments, he has ensured that we will never have to worry about this "tough guy" being POTUS.

Hey...when you're taking money from lobbies like the private prison industry, police unions, the alcohol and tobacco industries, and big pharma, you "have to" say these things. He's being paid to do it.

I think I speak for most Washingtonians when I say "Fuck you fatass, and quit harshing my buzz man!"

How about making it easier for marijuana to be used by universities and other research outfits by supporting the rescheduling of this natural plant?

How many parents have to post tearful and gutwrenching videos of how CBD products have saved their children's life, yet they had to do so illegally?

It's criminal that the government blocks so much research when their is already many examples of lives saved and improved, especially after the pharmaceutical route failed or made things worse.

I would also ask Governor McFatass for the data from Washington and Colorado that warrants a reversal of policy. What's changed post legalization that makes him feel the need to invoke federal power over a legal state legislation, via initiative in my states case no less?

Cannabis usage, unlike alcohol usage, is usually compensated for by the driver.

Or, as I often put it: If you want to spot the cannabis-high driver on the roadway, look for the person driving 5 mph under the limit.

The strange thing about cannabis is that the first few times you get high, you tend to be blitzed. But after you get a tolerance for it, it really doesn't affect you like the first few times.

Most people who try it once or twice and don't like it never get to the mellow phase. Cannabis is absolutely nothing like alcohol, besides having sedative-like effects. Hell, in a lot of ways, the buzz is almost totally opposite, making the person more likely to contemplate their level of inebriation, unlike alcohol that makes most people feel like superman the more they drink.

First of all, that's not what I said.

I said Indica does significantly impair, and Sativa does not. Even then I am generalizing, as there's a lot more to it than just that. Various strains have various effects. A proper legalized market would allow buyers to choose cannabis that won't impair them as much as others.

So please correct yourself and edit your post. Calling me retarded for something I DID NOT SAY is completely unfair.

If you weren't so dismissive, you might learn something. I know what I'm talking about.

Nothing strange at all, nearly any intoxicating substance leads to tolerance and thus the user requires more to achieve the same effect.

Checking the mirrors & signaling every move, as well. Their biggest problem is leaving enough following distance so that jerks can cut in front of them.

Pleasurable levels of cannabis intoxication entail a lot less impairment than similarly pleasurable levels of alcohol intoxication. Unlike alcohol, cannabis is not a central nervous system depressant.
