Crazy Buslink CD-RW Drive

I purchased a Buslink 12x10x32 CD-RW. I installed it in a Windows 98 machine along with the Adaptec/Roxio Easy CD Creator software. I was able to copy a music CD. Unfortunately, when I try to make a data CD or music CD, it stops during the write process with the message "There is no CD in the CD-Recorder. CD-Creator with now attempt to write the table of contents. Please insert the destination CD into the CD-Recorder." I tried putting in a second disk and ended up having two coasters.
I have tried different types of CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. I have removed all other CD creating software and uninstalled and reinstalled the Easy CD Creator. I deleted various VXD files as suggested in Roxio's support section and reinstalled the software. I defragmented the hard drive. I have updated the software. I also made sure no other programs were running (via ctrl-alt-delete).
In addition, the drive is recognized as a Lite-On drive and will only burn at 1x. No other speeds are available.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andrew

I can't help you with your problem, but I had many problems with that drive too. Mine would randomly not work in DirectCD w/ a RW disc and other flakiness. So my drive went back to the store...

haha the software it came with doesn't even recognize it as a CDwriter... wtf...

Nero and Fireburner does...

Should I be taking this back or not worry about it?

I had the jumpers set wrong. I didn't even think about it since the drive was recognized and copied a music CD. Now it is running great, thanks for the suggestions.
