Crazy Artic Silver! What a temp drop...finally

No probs here...I know what I'm doing...most of the time.

Anyway, about a month ago I had to reseat the HS on my heavily overclocked Barton XP2500. It's been running at 2.2GHz (11x200) since the day it came out of the package, 2+ years ago. 🙂

When I first applied the AS5, I went thru the usual run the system for a few days and let it cool overnight deal. Stress temps were in the high 40's.

Yesterday morning, I booted up, started gaming. Finished gaming. CPU at 36C. 😕 Right now I'm just surfing and it's at a comfy 32C.

Arctic Silver is the best, most confusing, TIM on earth. You must have Teh Patience to reap the rewardz.

I hear ya. When I built my latest system (AMD X2 3800+, 2 7800GT, 6 hds etal) I had decided off the bat not to use the stock hs/fan so I bought the zalman zp7000 or whatever the hell its called and used AS and my temps were like 53c idle! I kept using various amounts and was going crazy until I just used a little rice dot of AS and left the machine on for like 4 days straight. Now its 35c idle and ~50c under full load. Not bad considering how much crap is in my case, but those first few days seeing the 67c on the CPU freaked me out!

i'll give you  for the barton 2500+ mine's still running like a champ too.

Yep fellas. AS is a strange, but wonderful little beastie! It's very weird how it works; you've got the unknown break-in period where it's anywhere from sucks to wonderful, then (after an unspecificied for your CPU) time it breaks in and then you don't dare touch it for a few years. I mean, I just finished played some HL2 (I still dig it!) and CPU temp was 35C, in a room of about 25C. Thats' not bad at all. 🙂
