Craziness Abound!

A friend of mine just bought and installed a NEC Model ND-3520A (dual layer DVD burner). For some reason after installing the drive his keyboard does not work and he see two drives in My Computer. One is called DVD-ROM and one is called DVD-RW. He only has one drive installed at this time and this is reflected in the BIOS.

Any ideas? Especially as far as the keyboard is concerned. Could it be a switch problem on the back of the drive?

The only thing I can think of for the keyboard not working is he has plugged the mouse and keyboard backwards at the back of the computer. sounds odd but I have had it happen.
The 2 dvd rom, in the bios there could be one of the driver set to CDrom, generally set all the primary/secondary master and slave to auto and that may clear up the 2 drives.
