Look at it this way: in 20 years you can show the pictures to your kid's significant other and embarrass the heck out of them.

careful with some of those cleaners.....they can actually melt the carpet...you'll want to test and make sure it is ok in a closet first in case it does do damage.

oh, and.....WOW!...nice work.

1) Cut carpet out
2) Sell it as abstract art
3) Use profit for new carpet

Yeah, be careful with some of the cleaners.

And it is definitely an iron and paper towels, not wax paper. Think absorbency, people. Wax paper is not absorbent.

lol

Iron and wax paper? I always used an iron with clean cotton rag, and lots of steam.

Before the maintenance guy shows up, i would try some white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, spray it on generously and let it soak for a few minutes. Then blot it up with a paper towel or terry cloth towel.
It's worth a shot.

I normally have professional carpet cleaning solution around the house but I doubt you had that, so thats why I recommended the Vinegar solution.

It should help.

I doubt anything is going to remove all traces of that, but on the off chance some product does work take lots of pictures so you can be featured in their next ad.

I kinda like the idea of selling squares. You put up a couple squares on eBay, get a local TV station to do a human interest feature, submit it to digg, put the old ATOT effect to it, make your carpet the "hey did you see what someone's selling on ebay now? LOL" story of the day on the internet, make lots of money selling the rest, throw ATOT a party where someone spills wine on the new carpet.

Well, it was a good idea for awhile there...

Goo Gone is great, but will leave an oily residue afterward. Most times the cleanup is easy, but on carpet it would probably be best to go with something that will more easily evaporate.

Hold it - irons and WAX Paper?? If you heat a sheet of waxed paper with an iron, the wax in it is going to melt and soak into the carpet, no? Then you'll just have more wax in the carpet, spreading the color over a larger area and making it a little paler.

I successfully removed colored candle wax from a pile fabric using an iron and KLEENEX. I drained the water out of the iron so it would not produce steam, then set its temperature on the low side, such as for permanent-press fabrics. I put the Kleenex on the wax spot, then ironed over it. You have to experiment a bit with the iron temperature and how slowly you move the iron. The heated wax in the carpet melts, and it flows into the absorbent Kleenex. Keep changing where on the Kleenex you put on the carpet - don't want to re-deposit what the Kleenex has picked up! You may need several passes, with a clean bit of Kleenex each time, in one area of carpet to pull the colored wax out.

Sounds like you have a long job ahead. And the carpet's color is important, too, because that determines how much remaining crayon is just not noticeable. Good luck!
