Craving a cigarette REALLY badly right now... trying not to violate quitting smoking

Every time I try to quit smoking I always am successful until I drink, then social smoker mode kicks in.
Well tonight I've been drinking but I've gone long enough without smoking that I don't want to start again. Someone say something to keep me from heading to the 7-11 and picking up another pack.

🙁

kudos for making it so long.
your "addiction" is pure mental by now, and your lungs have already started cleaning themselves

you're healthier, food tastes better, your clothes don't stink of smoke
and you have 4 more dollars in your pocket everyday

fsck smoking, keep up the good work

Do you want cancer? answer that and you decide for yourself if you should go pick up a pack or not. Good luck!!

if you wanted to pay for lung cancer, you could have just let me remove one of your lungs for free.

Ok, now don't smoke!

Yes, either go to bed, or just find something to suck/chew on(a sucker, a pen, I don't care), and that'll help with the cravings.

You know what... you're right! Last time I did laundry I was definitely able to smell the stale smoke on my clothes, and some of my friends I've been around recently I have been able to smell the smoke on. It's not a good smell when your nose isn't used to smelling it 24/7.

Thanks 🙂

More beer! I've got 8 left! Yeah! 😀

I just caught myself grabbing my keys and about to walk out the door...
🙁
I know this part is the hardest from experience, where I either buckle down extremely hard or give in. If I can make it the next 3-4 days I think I can quit forever. Any other time I've gotten this far I've had some kind of major stress that happened that caused me to start again. Well this time I'm single at the moment (can't break up with GF if I don't have one), and I already know my father is dying (long story). Nothing else major can happen to me <crosses fingers>

Think of it this way, stay away from the craving these few days, and then after that it's all easy without any addiction saying "Go smoke it" or having to worry about it. Just go on and be yourself, go see a movie or something.

I decided to quit today myself. 4th time is a charm:beer:😀

Hang in there man! Cinnamon is really good at
keeping away the cravings.

Simple, if you go out for a pack you won't be able to stop at one pack. The first cig will undo all you've accomplished and you'll be a smoker again. All the pain you've already endured WILL HAVE BEEN FOR NOTHING!!!

That being said, I tried to quit a bunch of times, what was ultimately successful was in changing my lifestyle. I too was a social smoker and would always light up with a drink, in a card game, etc etc etc. Every time I tried to quit I'd go out with friends for some beers, bum one smoke and poof, back to square one. For a little while, you need to stop putting yourself in a position where you know you'll be tempted. Avoid the social occasions where you'll be most likely to light up. 2 months of no parties is a small price to pay.

My dad quite before I was born, but he tells me about it.

He said that you can never quite by just tossing all of your cigs away. No, instead he kept half a pack on him at all times, didnt smoke them until he didnt want to anymore. Then he finally tossed those. Maybe you could try that.

have a toothpick?

my grandmother quit smoking cold turkey and found that when she got fidgety about it having a toothpick or a lollipop stick or something to replace it worked until the cravings stopped coming

Maybe your dad couldn't quit by tossing them away, but everyone is different. I have a few friends who quit by tossing them.

I just quit too... The hardest for me is everytime I get in the car... Smells like smoke, and there's nothing to do but think about how tasty a nice refreshing cigarette would be!

LoL

Keep it up!

Everytime you feel the urge to grab one just get on ATOT instead, do a search for posts by LordJezo, and try to find intelligence in a random one of his posts. That should stop you from even thinking about smoking soon enough.
