Crashes of various types

Ok, so yesterday, my internet stupid ass provider, failed again to keep me online. Called them and during this morning, they've changed "an equipment" and now the internet is available.

But the weird part starts here. For some particular reason, I can only use IE and not mozzila firefox or anything else. When I fire up Firefox, the screen stays white and no page can be displayed. I close it and it gives me a crash error. Yahoo messenger doesn't work either, it tells me I have an issue with my internet connection. Close it and again a crashing error appears. I have also noticed, while I was trying to install some mallware scanners, that they can't connect to their servers for updates.

I have reinstalled ethernet drivers and I'm using Vistax64, NOD32 as antivirus. I am stupid and I have backup center disabled, so I can't make a system restore ( learned my lesson now ). So there must be some kind of file corruption or a conflict of some sort. Can anyone help me here, because I don't want to reinstall Vista for this!?

Try this, since it's quick and simple:

1) click Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click on cmd. From its right-click menu, choose Run As Administrator.

2) once you have the command-line window running as Administrator, run the command netsh winsock reset. After that, reboot the system.

Did that help, or is it still being weird?

Thanks for your help. I just found out that it's because of the stupid antivirus. "Internet monitor" of Nod32 is causing it. Just disabled it and now everything works as it used to. But I don't have any virus protection now, except the windows firewall.

But why does it do this now? It worked fine before the internet failed and now is totally broken. Should I use your command? Maybe it helps? Maybe it brings my antivirus back?

Try updating your antivirus, because it might be a widespread problem that they've already created a fix for.

What antivirus program are you using? I would recommend Antivir, free and VERY effective.

I'm using NOD32. Is Antivir really, really good?

Yeah, it's right up there with the best. Like NOD32, Avira / AntiVir has strong heuristic detection to detect stuff it doesn't have a signature for yet.

Well, I think I'm going to be an Antivir user after all. Thanks for your suggestions.
