The hot heatsink
That is the part that gets hot.
my motherboard is an ASUS (obviously) A8N-SLI Deluxe.
unsure of actualy temperature, but painful to touch and hot enough to cause system to shutdown. i currently have an unsed casefan pointed at the heatsink but would like to know what is causing the heat and if i can fix it.

about 6 months old. i had an overheating problem with the Northbridge too. fixed that with water cooling. could it have been caused by overclocking? i just remembered that when it crashed from overheating last time AI N.O.S. was overclocking whatever it overclocks by 8%.

The easy way to test overheating is to run the computer with the side panel off & a desk fan blowing straight onto the motherboard.
