Hello, my oblivion has a very bad crashing problem. every 5-20 minutes it will crash. I have all dlcs, mods, modmanagers, and even obse turned off and the problem still remains.
I have conducted a series of crash tests. I go to the imperial market district and do absolutely nothing. I just stand there, and check in on it every 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to last longer then 20 minutes. Also, this problem doesn't seem to happen in interiors. I walked into a shop to do one of the tests and I had to stop it (didn't crash) at 3 hours!
It could be because of the dialog the npc's use, or I can't load to much for to long. I really just don't know... This also seems to happen within the same time frame on another Bethesda game, fallout 3 (Note I did not investigate this thoroughly and I loaded an old save, I just went to megaton and stood there. It crashed at about 15 minutes in. I don't know if it crashes in interiors)

With skyrim coming up and this terrible game hopping tragedy a muck in my computer I am starting to panic. I came here do to the forms effective, numerous responses, please help.

Hello NAGZS and welcome aboard

Your RAM may be failing. AFAIK Oblivion loads much more into RAM when you are outdoors -> http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_9.html and this could explain why you have no problem when indoors.

Try memtest86+ for a few hours and see if your RAM is producing any errors.

Are you using the latest drivers for your card?

Anyway.. I ran the test and it says there nothing wrong, I used a few other tools as well, they also said it was fine
I also uninstalled and re installed oblivion, and it didn't fix it. now at least I know its not a mod.......

I turned down the graphics and tweaked the mem stuff, It still crashes though, but it does seem to be crashing ten minutes later now, but then again I don't see the point in playing an oblivion with bad graphics and no mods...... Now what do I do?

Hate to break it to you but Bethesda GameBryo games on PC are notorious for being buggy and unpolished and crashing quite a bit.

My friend experienced the same things you are with Oblivion and it wasn't until Fallout 3 which appeared to fix some of the issues.

I was hoping Skyrim would switch to the ID Tech 5 game engine but it appears it is still using GameBryo and we will have to wait until their next title before they switch to the in-house ID Tech engine.

Your best bet is to just save every 15 minutes or so.

I know oblivion is supposed to be buggy, I know, but can someone confirm if there oblivion crashes when standing in the imperial market doing nothing for 20 minutes.... I always though it crashed for everyone after like, 1-3 hours...
BTW I heard skyrim is ditching gamebyro for an "all new" game engine they made themself...

If I don't figure this out within the next few days, I will reinstall the OS. If that doesn't work, anyone know what my next step is? :(

I'm lucky to get 20 minutes without it crashing. I spent 6 hours downloading mods and activating them and now I'm going to delete it all. Fallout 3 is the same way. New Vegas actually was much better. I think it only crashed a couple of times in 90 hours.

When you uninstalled/reinstalled, please make sure you delete the game directory as well. Uninstalling does not remove mod files. You're also going to need to regenerate the Oblivion.ini that is found in your Documents folder.

I uninstalled EVERYTHING. I didn't use there uninstaller, I used revo uninstaller, and got rid of every filed related to it in every way, including the one file that everyone says to delete in my doc.
