I'm familiar with all things Windows and Linux, but have worked with BSD and AIX in the past. How different is it from FreeBSD?

I'm used to samba, so how different is CIFS and NFS?

Anything else I should be on the lookout for?

NFS is super easy under LINUX, BSD, SOLARIS. Just make sure it can get through the firewall and set up a couple of configuration files and you're done. Way simpler than samba.

CIFS is basically the current/modern version of the protocol samba and windows et. al. implement, aka a newer SMB.

CIFS support under Solaris is pretty easy though quite different to administer in the details than samba, different commands / config files but the same basic ideas.
