Craptastic Sound Quality!

I have a SB Audigy sound card, can't remember the exact model but it's not the lowest grade one and I have Altec Lansing speakers. Granted this isn't a great setup but just wanted something to play my MP3s. The sound is like staticy, which is strange. In my old PC I had a SB Live 5.1 (the really cheap $10 card) and it didn't have this prob, this was even back when I used my PC for a TV, and it played the TV audio just fine. Was just wondering if I could be missing an option or something.

Not stupid at all. I had this same problem with an SB Live! 5.1 that i had in another system and as soon as i reinstalled the drivers, the noise went away. Very strange...
