Crappy Win2K performance

Ok, so My HD was near capacity, full of junk, so I decided it was time for a format and clean install. So I do all that, and after I reload 2K and install some of my old programs, I notice that it is freezing up every few seconds during certain processes. Mainly while viewing/editing video files, but also while copying files, starting progs, etc. Every 10 seconds (almost exactly), my video files will stutter and crackle, then catch back up. It never did this before I reinstalled. Also, when I have been coyping large files over the LAN, it will freeze up every like 3 seconds for about a second. Again, it never did this before. Is there anything I can do to increase performance? Any programs you reccommend will help? Thanks.

It might just be a 'bad install'. Try again.

Did you do the obvious, device manager check, system & hardware properties, latest video card drivers . . . etc.?

Also make sure DMA is enabled on all IDE channels. I don't think win2k does that by default.
