Crappy video performance with driver re-install.

I recently uninstalled my Drivers and re-installed them for my x1900GT. Before I'd get 140's - 220's in CS:S easy with 2xAA/16xAF @ 1680x1050 (Everything on high, no HDR, Driver set AA/AF).

After I re-installed the most recent drivers I instantly noticed a huge FPS drop and random slow downs for no reason. Even worse VSYNC is stuck on and no matter what I do it won't turn off.

What happened? Should I uninstall and re-install drivers again? If so what version? And how do I get VSYNC to turn off.

Help? :(

Did you reinstall the same version of drivers? If not, you might want to go back to the previous version. Also, try using something like DriverCleaner to remove all signs of a previous driver.

Curious, but was there a specific reason why you reinstalled them?

That's basically what v-sync will do in your case: huge FPS drop (since FPS are being capped at monitor's refresh rate) and random slow downs for seemingly no reason.

What happened? Should I uninstall and re-install drivers again? If so what version? And how do I get VSYNC to turn off.

Where is v-sync stuck on? The ATI CCC, or the game in question? Have you tried a different game with its own v-sync setting? Have you checked the CCC 3D options to make sure v-sync isn't being forced to "on" by the driver?

I don't see where the VSYNC control would be in CCC and it's turned off in CS:S. I'll try Halo CE (Only other game I have installed) tonight.

And it's dropping below 60FPS (which is what vsync keeps it at) which it has never done before.

"Curious, but was there a specific reason why you reinstalled them?"
I couldn't launch CS:S without getting an error (DXsomethingoranother Error) so I resintalled my drivers and it did the trick just I lost a lot of performance.

I was updaring to the newest drivers released when they came out so I was up to date then re-installed the most up to date drivers from ATI/AMD.com I'll try driver cleaner tonight then go for another re-install.

What was the Catylst AI set at before you reinstalled? Did you have an overclock or fan speed program running? Try reinstalling the drivers, and make sure their the full ones. After that... we need more info! :)

I'm almost certain I had C AI off before and I've tried it off, standard, and advanced all with the same results. I'm going for a full re-install now. I had no OC but I had it unlocked although now it's locked again.

Edit: Oh, that's cute, Driver Cleaner costs money. :\

Ok sorry for the double post.

After a full re-install of drivers, a lot of restarting, some fighting with CCC, some testing, I've gotten back to about my previous performance. Found that Temporal AA was causing the vsync and some of the performance trouble. Thanks for the help guys. :)
