So today i recieved a Aspire 520W psu ive been longing to have. I finaly get it to see its poorly packed some brown paper around a torn up box with 1 layer of bubble wrap around it. The thing has somthin rattling around in there and dont seem to work. I got it to turn on my computer a few times but it wont last more than an hour before dying on me, after it dies it wont turn back on for a few hours or somthin. Real pain in the ass. I thought maybe it couldnt handle my 7800gtx so i unhooked that but its still not working. Im gonna ask for my money back any thoughts?

These were the pics from when he shipped it to me and how bad it was packed. The box only had some brown paper over it and that was all the bubble wrap used.

*Update* guy says: If you go to paypal, then they will notice what you are doing with Imports and customs is illegal.

because i asked him to ship it with a $20 value basicly thats all the things worth.

There shouldn't be anything rattling around. I wouldn't have even plugged it in until I figured out what was causing that. You're lucky not to have blown all your nice expensive parts out.

Aspire PSU's are not all that great, there are other generic PSU's that are worse, but I would still get something other than an Aspire..if you heard soemthing rattling in the PSU, you shouldn't have even considered turning it on, and you are very lucky if you didn't damage any other parts. Send it back, and get a quality PSU, Fortron, Antec, Enermax, Seasonic. If you are on a budget, Fortron is the best way to go, inexpensive, but still excellant quality.

i was longing for this psu because my other psu is a cheap piece of crap and i didnt even wanna try hookin up my 7800gtx with my old psu. This 1s specs seemed well enough to run the 7800gtx.

yeah i plan on sending it back. the only reason i bought it was cause i was on a budget. Im probably gonna buy a ocz psu now which will cost me alot more but o well ><

He speaks the truth. Another good budget selection is Thermaltake, though they're a bit harder to find nowadays.

From my own experience with Thermaltake, I would avoid their PSU's. Weak 12v rails(18a for a 420 and 430w PSU is pretty pathetic). My 420w thermaltake died after 3 days. The replacement has been running fine since, but I would never put one in my main rig, nor will I ever buy another.

this is a 520w though with a 34 amp 12v rail so i figured it would be good. Seller just told me that he would not refund my money and that he had droped a screw inside of the psu and that was the rattling sound.

Uhh... "Yeah I know I dropped an electrically conductive part inside of an electrical device, but I won't accept it for refund just because I might have caused it to die and risked damaging all of your equipment."

What the hell was he doing playing around with it in such a way that he managed to drop a screw inside? And he KNEW he dropped a screw inside and sent it out with it rattling around?

Demand a refund, work your way up the management to the owner (assuming it's not a one-person shop), and threaten to pass bad word about the business.

The "seller"? Did you get this thing from ebay? Tell the "seller" that you NEVER open up a PSU, there are capacitors in there that can kill you, and if the idiot dropped a potentially conductive screw in there then who knows what could happen when you turn it on. Seriously dude, dont accept that crap, maybe going a bit overboard here but it couldve been fatal if you were touching the psu whilest it was turned on. Ill assume the sellers the type of person who will stick forks into toasters to see what happens.

If your on a budget look into fortron, they have low prices high wattage and most important quality.

THe seller dropped screw in there, sold it to you anyway, and refuses a refund??? It is EXTREMELY dangerous to have a loose screw inside the PSU. I would not let this go, something needs to be done about this seller. The screw could have shorted something, and caught the thing on fire. Do not turn this PSU back on!!!!!!!!

Wow, a screw inside a PSU?! Anyways, avoid Aspire. It may claim to have 34A on the +12V rail, but it may be rated at like 25C. If you stick it in a 35C case, its performance will be far below its rating. Fortron rates their PSU's at 40C. They're one of the best PSU manufacturers out there. Don't get OCZ. Their PSU's are way too expensive. If you can afford one, get a Seasonic instead.

That's pretty much what even good power supplies are packed like in a retail box, I don't think you need to harp much on the packing. The damage was caused most likely by the loose screw floating around, if it worked at all when it was shipped. Certainly it could have been packed in an outer box though (and technically no carrier would pay off on an insurance claim against shipping damage in that sort of packing; they usually require like one inch of packing material on all sides).

You were so hard up that you had to import a power supply, while violating customs laws in order to save a few bucks?

I don't know what PayPal really would say about the customs thing; their only concern ought to be that the shipper sent a defective product, which he damaged, and therefore take whatever action they would normally take in this case, regardless of where it was shipped. However the guy could conceivably give you a hard time and end up with customs agents at your door over a few dozen dollars. (Point of interest: admitting illegal activities on a public forum is kinda dumb.)

I think you're going to have to take this as a learning experience.
