crappy performance from new computer

Recently got a MSI neo2 plat board and amd64 3000+.

Compared to my old amd64 2800+ and soltek mobo, everything is going awful slow. WHen i open programs or websites, everything goes so much slower than before. I don't know what is happening.

WHat program is there that can check to see if cpu and mobo are running properly.

Check the bios and tell us the fsb and multiplier.

Download 3dmark and Aquamark and tell us the scores.

Download cpu-z.

Tell us more information - did you re-format the hdd and install windows , install the mobo drivers?

Did you reinstall XP or did you just replace the parts?

you may need to upgrade your chipset\mobo, video, etc drivers.

i didn't reformat. I installed correct drivers for everything.

FSB and multiplier's are normal. It's 9 * 200

IDE drivers, i denno what they are.

Reformatting is not the universal solution to every computer problem, contrary to what seems to be popular belief. If programs are simply slow loading, I would guess that there is something wrong with your IDE/s-ata devices (seeing as how they don't really have drivers). If they're slow running, it's probably a problem with your RAM (since your CPU is new, its unlikely to be the problem). I would check these before you waste time reformatting or something silly like that.

Also, you upgraded from an a64 2800+ to 3000+? When you have it running, I would like to know if there is any performance gain whatsoever.

Check Windows Update for noncritical drivers. I had the same experience until I downloaded a driver specific to my board. It's snappy now.

I never feel totally secure when I change mbs until I do an clean install. It IS possible to change MBs without a format and reinstall but it's also not that hard to back up the important stuff and start clean. The fact is, until you do it you'll never know that your getting the most from your system. I don't know about you, but that bothers me a lot.
