crappy office of propaganda killed

y'know, the one that was going to spread lies, etc:

washington post

Pressed by reporters about whether the office would have disseminated false information overseas, as had been reported, Rumsfeld insisted that it wouldn't have done so. At any rate, he said, the new office's charter hadn't been completed, "so what it was to do was an open question, even today as it ends its very short, prominent life."

Rumsfeld added, with characteristic vigor: "The office is done. It's over. What do you want, blood?"

Haha, that's great.

OK let me see if I get this , They form an office to disseminate false information , then the first thing they announce is that they won't spread lies.

How can you believe that?

I dunno; the pentagon has been spreading lies since Vietnam--if not a little earlier.

They just won't admit to it 🙂

A little earlier? Warfare is all about disinformation. Disinformation has helped win every US war including the Revolutionary war.

So they are going back to their original offices to do this then? Anyone who thinks that this hasn't been going on all along (since before the US was even here) is not very bright.....

imho we disagree about spreading disinformation. Vietnam is when the Pentagon really began to lie methodically. Then again, FDR faked a second zimmerman telegraph, Woodrow Wilson campaigned on not entering WWI, and so on back to the beginning of time.

Interesting note: the war of 1812 had just about zero intentionally spreading of disinformation; it's about the perfect example of a war being fought on grounds consistent with Madisoninan/Jeffersonian democratic ideals.

Miss information has been winning wars since before the new world was found. I like Rumsfeld. He definitely knows how to work the press.
