It still runs WoW OK but I can't wait to get something new when I save up some cash in a couple months. I've just been a cheap-ass and saying to myself "it does what I need it to do..."

Here it is:

Athlon XP 1800+
1.5 GB pc2700 DIMM
GeForce 3
1x 120 GB Western Digital HD
1x 80 GB Maxtor
Sony DVD ROM
Mashita 12x CDRW

Users of "ancient" hardware represent your rigs.

P4 Northwood 1.8ghz 400FSB
512mb Ram @ 133
6800nu (yay upgrade!)
1x20gb Maxtor HD
1x80 WD HD
External DVD-RW
40x CDRW (yay black friday)

Worse than yours except for graphics card.

That is not ancient....other than the video card.

Jam in a 9800 Pro or something from the ATI X-series that's AGP and you can still milk that goat.

My friend is currently running that system with a 9800 Pro.

If we ran benchmarks against eachother it would be like the special olympics.

I have a duron 750 mhz and a k6-2 300 mhz laying around somewhere.

Better yet, I just did some work on a Pentium 90mhz for someone.

I agree, get a cheap cpu/mobo combo and a nice mid range video card and your set, even your PC2700 ram will still work well with it.

If you must play and have two grand burning a hole in your pocket build a new conroe rig. But unless you do some serious CPU intense stuff on your computer, the increase in performance from a decent 939 system to a conroe system definately won't be worth the price difference from $300 to $2000

40GB WD HD
120GB Seagate HD
1x broken CD-RW (haven't bothered to take it out yet)

edit: ok, so it' not my main rig. but it was 3 years ago.

I just finally upgraded this year... to a Barton 2400+ (which I'm running at something like 2.047GHz) and a 6600GT. I only have 768MB of RAM, though.

I have a P4 1.6 with onboard video. Does what I need it to do. There's so many other things I'd rather spend money on other than a faster PC to surf the net.

Have? Oh, if you want to go into the "I HAVE a crappy computer" section, I could work nicely there. I've got an Intel 486 (is that what they were called?) that I don't even KNOW the speed of. It booted up in DOS and we had to load windows manually. Those were the days...

My 3rd floor apartment is really hot (no central air) so while I was A/C-less my Athlon XP3200+ would overheat. So I moved it into my rarely used HTPC and in my main PC installed my Duron 1.8 :p Oh and my main hard drive is a 40GB IBM. That's right, Deathstar baby!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I still have my original Aptiva with a K6-2 450, 256MB, and a 27GB Quantum. That hard drive is a tank, it just will not die.

That's ALMOST exactly like my computer. Dell Dimension 4500, weaker processor, same ram, same video card (before I upgraded), and almost the same drives. We did get a good deal on our HD though.

I'm so out of touch with hardware since I haven't had money to spend on it for so long. Anyone care to link a recommended 939? I feel like I should know where to look but I don't. :(

Same cpu but with 128MB RAM
Voodoo 5500
60GB Seagate HD
52X CD-RW

I installed windows xp in it and it runs like ass but my mom uses it to check her email and browse the web and she's fine with it.

I run an iMac G4 15" 700MHz with a measly 256MB of RAM on every other week, for a week.

256MB seems like a decent amount, but not with OS X. And going from a 30" to a 15" display every week is killer.
