Crappy companies that use crappy shipping methods

Here's the situation:

I got a new case for my new setup, it came with only two standoffs. So my mobo is mounted using only those two, which I don't really like, so I go ahead and order a $5 set of screws/standoffs and the like. With shipping it's like $12.

The company I ordered from (Tigerdirect.ca) is based in the States, with a warehouse in Illinois. They have no physical warehouse in Canada, so every shipment comes from Illinois. They technically import them all, so no taxes or border fees are paid by customers up here. But because of the way they have to ship/import each package, they use UPS only as a shipping method, and they charge quite a bit more than most other domestic sources up here. They also take forever to process and ship orders (4 or 5 days).

UPS is a whole different can of worms. Last few packages from this place (Christmas presents and the like) got delivered to random people in my apartment building, despite the fact that they were technically international packages requiring a signature from the person whose name was on the package. I tracked a few online, they had different names, different signatures, no information as to which apartment they ended up in, nothing. I had to spend an hour on the phone tracking one down before I found out who in my building had it, because the guy didn't come and tell me he had it (he planned on keeping it, when I asked for it he was like "Huh? What package? Oh.....yeah I guess").

So this last package left Ontario customs on the 13th. Originally it was scheduled for delivery on the 18th. Then they rescheduled it for the 21st. Then on the 19th, it stopped getting updated, and on the 20th this showed up:

RICHMOND,
BC, CA 02/20/2007 12:00 P.M. ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS CAUSED THIS DELAY

Uhhh...okay? What adverse weather? Has Vancouver been hit by a snowstorm I didn't know about? The last few weeks have been mild rain and a little bit of wind, but nothing too horrible. I gave it two days before I called up UPS. They had no clue where it was, what was going on in Richmond (Vancouver suburb), or when it'd be delivered. They told me to contact Tigerdirect and have them trace it for me, to find out if it was still "delayed", or lost. So I emailed Tigerdirect, sometime late Thursday evening. Just today (Saturday evening) I got this response bacK:

> due to this weather condition the safety of any UPS driver is a real
> concern and every precaution must be taken into consideration, however we
> do apologize for this delay.

No "Dear Customer", no name of a rep, nothing to indicate where in their company it came from. What really bothered me is how it looks like it took a whole 15 seconds to write, they didn't even take the time to hit the Shift key, and all they did was tell me what UPS told me, which isn't what I asked them to do. Now it's the weekend, I can't get ahold of either company, and at this point I don't even care.

I responded back telling them that I no longer wanted the package and I would be refusing it, that the driver would probably end up delivering to someone else anyways, but that wasn't my concern and I'd simply deny ever getting it, and that I'd be doing a chargeback for the order if they didn't give me a full refund. I found a different source that's willing to ship through a variety of methods, many of which aren't UPS, so I'm happy.

Cliffs:
1) Ordered something simple from Tigerdirect.ca
2) They take forever to ship it, via UPS.
3) Non-existant weather has sent my package into the void for 4 days
4) Both UPS and Tigerdirect have zero clue, zero customer service skills, and zero business from me from this point on.
5) Rent "The Dreamers" and watch it, Eva Green is in it.

Ouch. I've been burned by Tigerdirect before. NCIX is quite amazing, and you probably have one of their B&M stores near you.

I'm actually in Victoria, a good couple of hours from Vancouver via ferry. They ship out same day through Canadapost, and it arrives the next day by noon, excellent service, just a crappy site. I couldn't find any kind of standoffs or screw kits or anything on their site.
