Crappy Bittorrent speeds

I'm getting real crappy speeds with bittorrent lately. I've tried many different clients, and none of them help. I have the ports open, XP firewall is disabled, and i don't have Zone Alarm, so i don't know why i'm getting crappy speeds. I used to get speeds of 200+ if i was lucky, but averaged 40-160 kbps. Now I'm getting 17 kbps if i'm lucky. Cox also just upgraded my download/upload speed, that also didn't help. I have a linksys router, and i've noticed a lot of people who have linksys routers tend to have problems with BT. I think one of the main problems is that no torrents seem to let me upload at all, i don't have any limit on or anything. And i am using the torrents that have plenty of seeders, so my download speeds should be golden, but they are crap, can't seem to figure it out.

I use a Linksys WRT54G and have had no problems.

Your ISP may be throttling the ports, or there are too many leechers, or just crappy seeds. I've had a few where I wasn't able to upload, but it's uncommon.

What clients have you tried? BitTornado works best for me. Azerus is terrible.

I use Azureus and it works awesome for me.

In the end, you shouldn't even have to forward ANY ports on your router/firewall if you are simply downloading. The upload portion should work once you get the download started. I know I've been using Azureus without any problems for quite a while with NO ports forwarded on my firewall.

Azureus has a FAQ that might be helpful for you to read on their website. I bet BitTornado and the others do as well. Find out if they suggest any ports be forwarded at all.

You may also want to contact Cox, your ISP, and find out if they are blocking ports. It's very possible.

Don't blame SP2, guys. That limits the number of simultaneous outbound connections from a single IP/port combo.

Point the finger at your ISP if anything. Mine throttles BT until after about 10pmish. :p

Only if you've got a crappy client. Azureus doesn't cap your download speeds unless you limit your upload to <5KB/s, which anyone with broadband can handle.

ever since i tried azureus i NEVER got satisfying speeds. I tried around with Azureus and ABC and i have MUCH better results with ABC.

I also have a linksys wrtg54 rouiter and opened/forwarded ports 6881-6999.

Get ABC and get some decent torrent and give it 10 mins and check the speeds. Try different torrents, not necessarely the latest with the most leechers.
