Crappiest piece of software of all time?

The idea for this thread came to me after several not so brief bouts with Real Media player. I choose this fine piece of garbage for nomination for the following reasons:

- It has serious file association envy, no matter what you set the option to.
- It has found unique ways to advertise in places you'd never thought possible.
- It contains more bloatware than functionality.
- And last but not least, Maria Cantwell (God awful senator of the state in which I take residence) was former CEO. That's probably why this programs has such a liberal feel to it. (It advertises a lot without really getting anything done)

😀

I'll second that nomination. It crashes so much that it was the single reason i ever had to restart my win2k machine last semester.

Real Player is like a virus in the way it attempts to dig itself into the depths of your PC. I second that nomination as well.

That dumbass Gator software that comes with Kazaa (along with every other "free" software). I hate it :|

I do agree with the Real Player being evil though

Realplayer One
Acdsee4
quicktime
windows media player 7 and 8
winamp, its bloated with crap you dont need but at least they dont force you to use it

no one forces you to use anything

Does anyone have any ideas as to other options for the pole? LOL If there was only one choice, Realplayer would be sure to be it.

<< Linux. >>

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! You are a funny man 🙂

Seriously:

Windows ME
Real Player
The newer Media Plyers
Microsoft Bob

no no, I mean winamp is great, its bloated with stuff you dont need but its not forcing it down your throat like with all the other programs, expecialy acdsee4 and realplayer

<< Whats so bad about acdsee4? I like it.. just don't like that icon that pops up in the taskbar.. >>

try acdsee3, has everything you want, not that built in video player and whatnot

how can you say winamp is bloated? 😕 did you do the minimum install, or did you go for the one with everything in it? you do have a choice, you know.

I would agree on real software except that it actually has a useful purpose once in a while. Therefore:

1) Any verison of Netscape that supposedly runs on windows
2) Whatever Mcafee software that runs on my machine at work. Imagine a computer that, every few minutes, crawls to a halt (literally) every few minutes.
3) Novell client. Imagine a piece of software where all known standards of user interface are thrown out the window. Example: you begin typing your login id, then click a checkbox for logging into the workstation only. It then overwrites your login id with a random one it has deemed the appropriate default.
