":roseola doesn't look anything like chickenpox "

I googled - agree. He definitely has little red dots that look like mosquito bites, NOT the pictures that showed up when I googled roseola. Anyways, the doc should know for sure.

You should call ahead and warn the doctor's office...

not everyone knows that. there is also a vaccine for shingles.
Is it safe or effective to get shingles vaccine if you haven't had chicken pox or had a mild case? I've been meaning to ask about it for years since I'm 50 and not sure if I had the pox or not. I've always been scared of some selfish asshole who lets their contagious child go out into public with the pox.

strap him in the luggage cargo underneath or even the overhead bin to prevent infecting others.

Or just leave him at home, he can take care of himself, right?

Or (in all seriousness), any family that can take care of him?

Otherwise you're going to get royally screwed with cancel fees.

It's chicken pox. It's not the plague.

Yeah, most older people have already had chicken pox and most younger people have been vaccinated for it.

While the OP is being stupid and kinda selfish, his family is probably not going to cause a contagious outbreak or anything.

I'm vaccinated for measles and most likely still immune to smallpox too due to the multi-stage vaccine I had as a child... and you may also be. (the science on the actual level of immunity is mixed)

Point is that just because I'm not worried about getting sick doesn't mean inexcusable and stupid/selfish behavior like the OP's is not a serious problem.

Thing is we are not the issue, its pregnant women, infants and folks with compromised immune-systems who can't get vaccinated that are at real risk from selfish idiots.

i LOVED the oatmeal bath

it's a shame i don't have an excuse to take one ever again

What more "excuse" do you need ?!? 😉

Serious complications from chickenpox include:
  • Bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues in children, including Group A streptococcal infections
  • Infection of the lungs (pneumonia)
  • Infection or swelling of the brain (encephalitis, cerebellar ataxia)
  • Bleeding problems (hemorrhagic complications)
  • Bloodstream infections (sepsis)
  • Dehydration
