Crap, I ripped my IDE cable

I have an external enclosure for a 3.5" hard drive. When I was installing the HDD, the IDE cable ripped in the middle. It was along the lines of the wires, so I dont think any of the wires were ripped. Just the plastic that covers them. Will it still work without errors?

Why not try it? I seriously doubt you will damage anything if it doesn't work. Also, shouldn't be too difficult to replace the cable.

how much does an ide cable cost? $10 for the rounded and sheilded ones. no more then $2 for a regular one. just salvage an old one from any computer you find that people are throwing away. but while you can try it, it may put your drive in PIO mode which is SLOW!

Well, I didn't know if they sold IDE cables that short. It's about 3 inches long. Anyways, it seems to work just fine. I just created a backup image onto it, and it didn't give any errors. Thanks.
