I had a root canal about a month ago. The root canal procedure itself was about $740 and the crown about $850. Total cost was around $1650 with my insurance paying $1000 (their yearly max).
My first temporary crown fell off and i had to go get another one that they put on with stronger adhesive than the last one.
The filling in the tooth had fell out like 2-3yrs ago and i hadn't been able to eat on that side for about the last year or so. It just started hurting all the time no matter what i did so i went to the dentist and he gave me some antibiotics and some painkillers.
The painkillers worked great for the nerve pain till i was able to get back and have the root canal done.
The day of the root canal, after the shots wore off, it was starting to hurt. A different type of pain from the nerve pain before. I took two (normally i would take one and it would take care of the pain) and it didn't even take the edge off.
The painkillers almost did nothing for the pain after the root canal. It wasn't quite as painful as the nerve pain before but it was still slightly painful especially if i accidently bit down on the temp crown. The pain subsided after about 3 days but i wasn't actually able to eat on the temp crown for about a week and a half to two.
Overall, i hope i never have to have another root canal but i really had no other choice because the wisdom tooth is growing at an angle near the tooth and i would've had to go to an oral surgeon to extract the tooth.
Good luck!
